Valeria Lauriola

I am an Italian freelance translator with a long experience in the field of translations from English and Spanish into Italian.

I was born in Milan, after high school I moved to Rome and I graduated in Interpreting and Translation in 2003. In 2005 I got a Master's Degree in European Marketing.

After my university studies, I started some internships in several communication agencies. My jobs included press reviews, events organization, media monitoring and, of course, translations of reports and documents. In 2006 I finally managed to turn my translation studies into a career.

What is the most challenging task for a translator? To deliver a translation that you'd never think was originally written in another language. How is this achieved? Joining together an extensive knowledge of the subject, a perfect mastery of the target language (the native language) and a wide range of terminology sources.

Since 2006 I have been working with both translation and communication agencies. Thanks to my Master's degree in marketing I have also gained experience in translating a wide variety of technical topics (above all in these specializing fields: marketing/advertising, tourism, business and finance, information technology) so I can provide accurate and high-level translations.

The types of projects I have been translating include: prospectuses, company reports, employee surveys, questionnaires, brochures, press releases, product brochures, editorials, newsletters, leaflets, advertising campaigns.

In my spare time I love traveling, reading novels (my family runs an independent bookshop), cooking, taking photos, writing short stories, diving and speleology.

“What is above all needed is to let the meaning choose the word, and not the other way around” (George Orwell, Politics and the English language, 1946)
